On June 8, Houston County Republican Women presented 2 books to the Houston County Love Memorial Library in memory of 2 ladies that were members of our organization, Lois Newton & Janie Solomon. On June 22, Houston County Republican Women had a representative of the Salvation Army as one of our speakers at our monthly meeting concerning what their local organization provides for our community. At the end of their presentation, HCRW made a generous donation along with a number of members donating individually to sponsor several underprivileged children attending their camp during the summer. HCRW has also been an annual participant of Ringing the Bell at their Red Kettle for many years. On July 27, Houston County Republican Women had a representative of the Wiregrass Food Bank as one of our speakers at our monthly meeting concerning what their organization provides for our community. For a number of years HCRW has collected food for the Senior Brown Bag Program, which helps supply food for some of the seniors in our community that need assistance with food needs. At the end of their presentation, HCRW made a generous donation along with a number of members donating individually to help feed several of our senior citizens for the year. Each Fall, we also have a soup drive where cans are brought to meetings by our members for what is called “The Souper Bowl” to help supply soup for seniors for cooler months of the year. On August 2, some of our members of Houston County Republican Women gathered at The Wiregrass Food Bank to volunteer their time to help sort food goods and box them up for senior citizens in need of assistance in our area so boxes could be delivered. With team work much was accomplished!
